The Toyota Hilux is expected to go on sale in India early next year, and the pickup SUV is frequently spotted ahead of its launch in India. Last week spy footage of the truck from its TV Commercial (TVC) shoot surfaced online and now one of our viewers has spotted the van in the mountains and Toyota is likely continuing the TVC shoot in the northern India. For starters, the Toyota Hilux will likely only be offered in the double cab variant and it shares its underpinnings with the current Toyota Innova Crysta and Fortuner. It is spawned by the IMV-2 platform and in fact there are many identifiable elements that have been borrowed from the Innova Crysta. That said, the face looks new and fresh with a larger hexagonal grille, swept-back LED headlights with LED DRLs, a new bumper, 18-inch alloy rims, flared wheel arches, a side step, body cladding and LED tail light. Inside, the Hilux is likely to have an all-black cabin with features like leather upholstery, an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, ventilated seats, cruise control, eight-way power front seats, connected car technology, among others.

The Toyota Hilux’s engine specifications are still a secret. However, the pickup will likely be powered by a 2.8-liter diesel engine developing 201 hp and 420 Nm of maximum torque. The automatic variant makes 500 Nm of maximum torque. The automaker could introduce 4×2 and 4×4 versions to meet different customer requirements. The Hilux will be assembled locally at Toyota’s Bidadi plant in Karnataka. Once launched, it will face the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross in the segment.
