Citing the example of Sooryavanshi, which was recently released in theaters, Aftab Shivdasani says that only big-ticket movies will attract audiences to theaters.
Theaters have reopened again and movies are lining up to release, but actor Aftab Shivdasani believes the web still has the edge over theaters. The actor says this is all because audiences are still very used to watching content at home.
“The cinemas start slowly. They have dominated the entertainment business for years. You cannot erase it. They give you an experience that OTTs can’t. Having said that, I think OTTs are going to eat into the theaters business a bit. People are now so used to watching content at home, ”he explains.
Citing the example of Akshay Kumar-starrer Sooryavanshi, which recently hit theaters, Shivdasani says only big-ticket movies will attract audiences to theaters.
“It may take a little while but it will happen soon,” the 43-year-old tells us, adding: “I think mid- and low-budget movies will suffer for a while, if not a long time because people might not. have them in theaters.
He further adds that people have become accustomed to watching such movies on OTT and this habit takes time to return to the cinema. “They’ve been watching these movies for a year and a half at home. They can wait for these films on the OTT after a few weeks or a month. This could affect the box office, ”he emphasizes.
As for him, the actor is sufficiently rubbed with the medium OTT, having been part of Poison 2 and Special operations 1.5, and he wants to continue to have a mixed bag.
“I think this is the way forward not only for me but for all actors. Not all movies will hit theaters and now actors are doing both. We realize there has to be a mix of these. two mediums, ”he concludes.
