Met Gala 2021: Rihanna’s ‘Rebel Black Ring’ has a cultural significance; find out


Rihanna is the queen of the red carpet. The singer has turned heads with her recent appearance at 2021 Met Gala, in which she wore a stunning Balenciaga overcoat and matching hat. Her all-black look was personalized by Demna Gvasalia; it featured voluminous flounces. She walked in with her boyfriend ASAP Rocky, who also wore a dramatic piece – a quilt-inspired look by ERL.

But, it was a particular accessory to her that made the news. In an Instagram post, Sotheby’s Fine Arts Company explained that the 33-year-old singer wore Thelma West Diamonds’ ‘Rebel Black Ring’, which “is a highlight of our next show. Brilliant & Black: a rebirth of jewelry – the very first exhibition-sale dedicated to black jewelry designers, which opens to the public this Friday ”.

On its website, Sotheby’s stated that Shiny and black: a rebirth of jewelry will open to the public in New York from September 17-26, and will showcase approximately 60 pieces from 21 of the world’s top black jewelry designers, “including bespoke jewelry and signature designs spanning a range of periods and styles from 1950s to Today “.

“Coins from the show will be available for purchase, either in person or directly through our Buy Now online marketplace from September 17 through October 10,” the Instagram caption reads.

The exhibition was reportedly organized in partnership with writer, author and stylist Melanie Grant. Prices vary between $ 1,500 and $ 1 million.
