The vaccination campaign is the key to the BJP’s three-week celebrations to mark the Prime Minister’s birthday.

New Delhi:

As the government rushed to hand over a vaccination record on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday today, the country has recorded more than 42,000 vaccinations per minute, a senior health official said. Vaccinations crossed a crore in the afternoon – for the fourth time in less than a month – setting a milestone by the end of the day.

Aiming for 2 crores of vaccination as Prime Minister Modi turns 71, the government has added a ticker to track Covid injections across the country.

“Celebrating the relentless efforts of Indian COVID-19 vaccinators, we have added a ticker to show vaccinations in near real time. We are currently recording over 42,000 vaccinations / minute or 700 / second,” the chief tweeted. National Health Authority RS Sharma, sharing the new feature.

The vaccination campaign is the key to the BJP’s three-week celebrations to mark the Prime Minister’s birthday.

“Let’s #VaccineSeva and give him (PM Modi) a birthday present by having those who have not yet taken the dose vaccinated,” Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya tweeted yesterday, urging people to get vaccinated.

To achieve its goal, the BJP had prepared health volunteers “to ensure that as many people as possible receive their COVID-19 vaccines during the day”.

In recent days, India has reported more than a crore of Covid hits in one day more than once.

Senior BJP leaders say the party wants to emerge “recorded in history” as one that has seen a record number of Covid vaccines administered.

By midday, more than 94,000,000 vaccinations had been carried out. PM Modi’s home state of Gujarat had crossed five lakh doses, more than the daily doses in the past seven days.

In the afternoon, Bihar had administered Covid injections to 7.3 lakh of people, three times more than the average for the past three days. Madhya Pradesh was over 5 lakh doses – 75 percent of the past two-day average.
